Papers include White's correspondence, business papers, including financial accounts, and legal and financial papers pertaining to his proposed Manual Labor Schools in Iowa and Indiana and White's journals and memoirs of White and his grandfather, Jopsiah White. In addition are letters to White family members; the journal of Margaret Ellis; the papers of Solomon White Roberts; papers of Barclay White, Daniel S. White, Elizabeth White, John J. White and Solomon White; the papers of Hannah White Richardson and Richard Richardson and the papers of Rebecca White. Principal correspondents of Josiah White include: Elizabeth White (his wife) & Mahlon Day; other correspondents include: Sarah Mapps Douglass, Edith Griffith, Eli Jones and Sybil Jones, Philadelphia Society for Organizing Charity, Ann Preston, Elizabeth Stern, William Still. Barclay White's father, Joseph, was Josiah White's brother. Barclay White served as Superintendent of Indian Affairs for the Northern Superintendency from 1871 to 1877. Service was to the Santee Sioux, Winnebagoes, Omahas, Pawnees, Iowas, Ottoes and Missourias and Sac and Foxes.
